Clean South Africa Foundation

Be Part Of The Solution.
WHY WE EXIST
South Africa has a litter problem, but the real issue isn’t waste, it’s behaviour.
For years, littering has become normalised. We walk past it. We ignore it. We think it’s someone else’s job.
This mindset has created pollution in our communities, our rivers, our schools, and our public spaces.
It affects our health, our dignity, our economy, and our reputation as a nation.
Clean South Africa Foundation exists to change this.
We focus on education, awareness, and action to reshape how South Africans think about waste and personal responsibility. Our work is about fixing behaviour, building pride, and empowering every citizen to keep South Africa clean.
A clean country is possible, but it starts with us.
ABOUT US
Clean South Africa Foundation is a citizen-led nonprofit committed to changing habits and mindsets around littering and environmental care.
We travel across the country to educate schools, activate community cleanups, work with government and the private sector, and raise awareness through storytelling and campaigns that speak directly to the people.
Our work is rooted in simple but powerful beliefs:
• People change when they understand why
• Cleanliness is a shared responsibility
• Children are the key to long-term behaviour change
• Communities must lead their own solutions
• Accountability belongs to all of us; individuals, brands, and government
We are building a culture where South Africans respect their surroundings and take pride in keeping them clean.

MISSION
To change the habits and mindsets of South Africans by shifting how we think about littering, waste, and responsibility; through education, awareness, and action.
Vision
To change the habits and mindsets of South Africans by shifting how we think about littering, waste, and responsibility; through education, awareness, and action.
What We Do:
Education
We visit primary and high schools with child-friendly programmes, talks, and soon our national environmental booklet.
We teach:
• Why littering is harmful
• The basics of recycling
• How to take responsibility at home and at school
• How children can influence their families
Awareness
We run behaviour-change content and conversations across social platforms.
We document real people, real streets, and real issues, showing South Africans the reality we’ve created together, and the mindset that needs to change.
We are currently developing a national Above-The-Line awareness campaign (TV, radio, and billboards) so that every citizen understands their role and responsibility.
Action
We organise and support clean-up campaigns across the country; in townships, suburbs, cities, and rural areas.
We bring gloves, bags, tools, and resources.
Communities bring the people.
Together, we clean, educate, and inspire.

South Africa generates over 122 million tons of waste annually.
